New recording: Bach, Fux and Rameau recorded with Music Director Lars Ulrik Mortensen

In December 2007, EUBO recorded repertoire for a new CD, including a Suite from Concentus Musicus by Fux, the Orchestral Suite No 1 in C BWV1066 by JS Bach and a Suite from Rameau's opera Zoroastre, at St Michael’s Church in Oxford.
The recording will be available on the label Gift of Music in 2008.

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to this season of concerts by the superbly accomplished young players of the European Union Baroque Orchestra. Every year the orchestra renews itself, drawing on the diversity of European music talent and developing the skills and enthusiasm of some of the finest performers of baroque music as they enter the professional world.

This is an important moment to sit as President of the Council of Ministers of Culture. The European Commission, led by President Durao Barroso, has indicated that ‘the time is ripe for a new European agenda for culture, which takes into account the realities of today’s globalising world’. The Council of Ministers shares this vision and in the coming years we will be aiming at increasingly placing civil society and cultural organisations at the forefront of our initiatives in intercultural dialogue and in making the European Union’s benefits more evident to its citizens. We will go on further developing policies and intergovernmental initiatives so as to stimulate the creativity of Europeans and to highlight its contribution to innovation as well as social and economic cohesion and development.

EUBO is ideally placed to play a major part in achieving these goals. It represents and presents the common heritage of our European music from one of its greatest periods. It is faithful to the tradition of that heritage while demonstrating its relevance and appeal to present day audiences.

EUBO is a uniquely valuable and effective ambassador for both our European culture and our European young people. Wherever the Orchestra plays, whether in Europe or around the world, it demonstrates the vitality of our culture. It shows also how an organisation started and supported by the European Union can contribute in a way that would be far more difficult for any nation to do by acting on its own. Through EUBO, the whole Europe and every European can show what spiritual enrichment and enjoyment a true measure of real cultural co-operation can bring.

On behalf of my fellow Culture Ministers, I wish this generation of EUBO players every success in their future careers and address to them our thanks for their commitment. To those who will be listening to them this year, do enjoy the best of beautifully performed European music.
