Handel, a dramatic Genius Tour directed by Lars Ulrik Mortensen Concertmaster Huw Daniel Soprano Maria Keohane Performance dates: 2 to 7 September 2010 Following up on the huge success EUBO achieved in 2009 with its performances with Lars Ulrik Mortensen and Swedish soprano Maria Keohane (“with a thrilling breathtakingly beautiful voice” The Scotsman), the orchestra will present a programme of some of Handel’s most beautiful solo arias and the dramatic Cantata ‘Ero e Leandro’. Handel wrote the Cantata when he was just 22 years old – a similar age to EUBO’s musicians, which recounts the tragic final moments of the disconsolate Hero and the brave Leander, drowning in the Hellespont.
The Dutch Connection Tour directed by Ton Koopman Concertmaster Zefira Valova Performance dates: 8 to 17 October 2010
2010 sees the return of the eminent Dutch musician Ton Koopman. Maestro Koopman was one of the first Music Directors of the European Baroque Orchestra (as it first was called) and directed the first tour in 1985 highlighting 18th century musical links with Holland. His 1985 programme included many of the works (above) to be performed in 2010 by the 25th generation of orchestral musicians.
Gods, Heroes … and mere mortals Tour directed by Christina Pluhar Concertmaster Tuomo Suni Performance dates: 8 to 21 November 2010 Christina Pluhar (director of L’Arpeggiata) directs a performance weaving together stories of Gods, Heroes and ordinary mortals, including the love affairs of Hercules, through the music of Caldara, Cavalli, Legrenzi, Lully and others. The 18 musicians of EUBO, featuring a colourful array of plucked instruments and percussion, are joined by 4 singers and 2 dancers in this semi-staged opera. The performance, lasting 90 minutes without interval, unfolds with scenes from Cavalli’s ‘Ercole Amante’ (Hercules in love), written for the marriage of Louis XIV, which Lully interspersed with ballet interludes and entrées in 1662.
